Sahel 2043: Towards a Resilient, Inclusive and Prosperous Sahel Region

Sahel 2043 is a United Nations prospective study that provides a comprehensive, forward-looking analysis of the Sahel region and a set of coherent strategic orientations to help national and international partners catalyse its structural transformation. Building on a diagnostic of the region's geopolitical, economic, demographic, social, environmental and security dynamics, a survey of the aspirations of Sahelian populations and a structural analysis, the study develops business-as-usual, pessimistic and optimistic scenarios for the region's future. The Millennium Institute supported the quantification of these scenarios with the Aggregated System Dynamics Model for the Sahel region (aSDMS), an adaptation of its iSDG model to the regional level. The study concludes with a long-term vision for the Sahel and strategic orientations for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the region.
