Earth4All: Austria – Five Turnarounds towards Wellbeing for All within Planetary Boundaries
This report applies the Earth4All framework to Austria, one of the two pilot countries for Earth4All's national engagement work, led by the Austrian Chapter of the Club of Rome. It examines how policy measures could affect human wellbeing, society and ecosystems in Austria up to 2050 under two scenarios: 'Too Little Too Late', which continues current trends, and 'Giant Leap', in which the five extraordinary turnarounds on poverty, inequality, women's empowerment, food and energy are implemented together with a transformation of the economic system. The global Earth4All scenarios were transferred to the national level with the system dynamics iSDG model, in modelling work by a team from BOKU University Vienna and the Millennium Institute, and combined with a broad stakeholder process. The results show that implementing all five turnarounds together can significantly reduce poverty and inequality in Austria while transforming the economy in ways that support the wellbeing of both people and the planet, whereas the Too Little Too Late path leads to stagnation.
