AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO SUPPORT CLIMATE POLICY FORMULATION AND EVALUATION
With the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, national leaders have started investigating options for reducing carbon emissions within national borders. After ten years debating on whether the global and national economies would have been negatively impacted by the implementation of such measures, rising global concerns on climate change have urged policy makers to find ways to reduce the carbon intensity of the global economy. The main motivation for the present study stems from the acknowledgement that there is a need for integrated tools that could serve as a mean to close the gap between dynamic and all embracing thinking, which is required when facing critical issues such as the upcoming energy transition and climate change, and available conventional modeling tools (e.g. optimization and econometric models). The present study aims at evaluating whether energy issues should be contextualized to effectively support policy formulation and evaluation.
