About the Position

The Millennium Institute (MI) is seeking a candidate for a short-term Project Associate position in Togo. The associate acts as the Togo-based focal point for the project and works in close cooperation with the overseas project manager to coordinate country activities and ensure timely delivery of the project.


The ideal candidate will have experience working on international development projects, and a keen understanding of Togo’s national development planning processes, the key stakeholders and actors, and resources that can be tapped for effective implementation of the project.


The candidate will work with a team of experienced and dedicated professionals, and interact with national policy makers and development partners in consulting and workshop settings. Only candidates who are currently residing in Togo will be considered.

Key Resposibilities

Data Collection: Support data collection activities, including but not limited to:

  • Understand the nature of datasets required by MI for the project, and assist the government implementation partner(s) to assess availability, accessibility, and quality of data from national sources.

  • Support the government implementation partner(s) to gather quality data from national sources (including directly from relevant institutions, online sources, and through interviews and surveys) in a timely manner.


Workshops: Support planning and conducting of workshops, including but to limited to:

  • Planning and organization of the project workshops in close collaboration with the project manager and other Ml team members, keeping all relevant persons updated on progress and outcomes.

  • Explaining System Dynamics tenets and concepts, and assist workshop facilitation if needed, especially during interactive sessions and practical exercises.


Project Management: Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Ensure timely delivery of the inputs required from the government implementation partner(s). Keep the overseas project manager apprised of developments that may impede the project and advise on remedial actions to be taken.

  • Provide insights on the government implementation partner(s)’ procedures and practices.

  • Cultivate and maintain various stakeholder relationships to advance the project

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Development Economics, Environmental Sciences, or related fields

  • Knowledge of System Dynamics modelling and/or other quantitative methods

  • Experience in data search and analysis

  • Fluency in English and French

  • Experience working in teams, open and collaborative attitude


Highly Valued

  • Excellent analytic, research, and writing skills

  • Experience in training, workshop facilitation, or similar group management skills


Preferred

  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable development issues

  • Multicultural experience, particularly in developing countries

Work Hours

The position is based in Togo. The candidate ideally is based in Lomé, but is willing to travel to other parts of Togo if required. A commitment of at least 10 hours per week on average, and more if necessary to meet deadlines is required.
